NOTE: The dating of the world uses several different conventions. The most common human calendar begins with the end of the great wars of unification of Averim, and the founding of the Empire of Averim, and is the one used in this calendar.

??? Creation of world by the twelve gods. Elves, Orcs, and Dwarves are the three original races, representing the paths of good, evil, and neutrality respectively.

??? Experimentation by the race of dragons, a race not created by the twelve gods, but arriving from somewhere beyond this plain, brings about the races of
humans, ogres, minotaurs, trolls, and centaurs.

@ 3000 B.C.E. As a result of a wager between Hadar, god of death, and Grummish, lord of war and the orcs, those elves who are seduced by Hadar become his children – the Drow, starting a war between the dark elves and the Malinari Elves that lasts for millennia.

» 1500 B.C.E. Dragons, bored with the affairs of the lesser and “mortal” races, leave Aromathus, leaving only their lore and magic behind for the younger races. The various gawds scramble to gain new followers, and the humans fall under the patronage of Urnomax, god of the sea in lands far across the oceans.

» 800 B.C.E. Arrival of humans from across the ocean. The humans begin settling the archipelago of islands that is today the Narvith Empire.

790 B.C.E. A Treaty is signed between the human, the elvish nation of Malinar, and the Togress dwarves. Lefricthalanaasa of the elves and Grudging Granite-Smasher of the dwarve split the world with the human chiefs, ceding them the islands of what is today the Narvic Archipelago, save those claimed by the minotaurs, and all of the hill country and plains between the great ocean and the river Ishkar and beyond, on the condition that they expel the orcs from those lands. The orcs, naturally, are not consulted on this.

The older races, thinking that the humans will fail in the attempt, are not worried about the newly arrived and upstart race. However, they do promise that if man breaks the treaty, and brings war upon either elf or dwarf, “ ‘Elven Magic and Dwarven Steel’ will rain destruction and woe upon mankind.”

787 B.C.E. Founding of the city of Albeld, today the largest city in Aromathus and capital of the Narvith Empire.

701 B.C.E. Founding of the city-state of Averim, built on the hills above Lake Taavish.

690 B.C.E. Alain Tornman, Duke of Albeld, is crowned Empire of the Narvith Isles. Control of his vast kingdom is dependent upon the skill of his royal magi, allowing them to use fifth order magic to travel from island to island of his vast domain. Also, the first human academy of magecraft is founded in Albeld that year.

B.C.E. 107 Founding of the Knights of Narvith by Emporer Joran III, an order of knights dedicated to keeping the peace in the Narvith Empire. These knights are dedicated to both Urnomax, god of the sea and Tornonar, god of magic. Joran also begins construction of temple isle in Albeld, held sacred to all the gods as a condition of this pact.

37 B.C.E Justarias 1st (or Justarias the Great) comes to the throne of the city-state of Averim. A brilliant organizer, tactician, and diplomat, he spends the whole of his long reign unifying the city states and small kingdoms that make up the human nations on the mainland. At first ignored by the other races and the Narvic’s, at the time of his death, his son Norazon inherits a kingdom stretching from the Great Sea in the west to the highland regions of Eldane in the East, and from the Togress Mountains in the north to the great elven forests of the south.

1 C.E. Crowning of Norazon and proclamation of the Empire of Averim. As his first action as King, Norazon declares the highlands of Eldane to be under his control and marches his army off to conquer them. Eldane, having no desire to be ruled by the new western giant, is assaulted in the first of a series of wars that flare on and off again until the present day.

4 C.E. Norazon, having conquered Eldane, begins to marshal his armies for a strike against the dwarves. His generals, unaware that he has been corrupted by the dark god of the orcs, follow him, despite knowing of the warnings handed down from ages past, for he has led them to victory after victory thus far.

5-7 C.E. First Human Dwarf-War. At first successful, Norazon takes several of the dwarven citadels. The Togress, however, stand firm and repel the humans, gaining back much of the conquered territory. Eventually, Norazon comes home with his tail between his legs.

8 C.E. Sudden death of Norazon. Foul play is suspected, but never proven. The March Lords breathe a sigh of relief, for Norazon’s heir, Norazon II, is a child of seven, and a time of peace ensues. It is only long after his death that knowledge of Norazon's pact with Grummish becomes known to the march lords, and his name enters human history as the greatest villan of all time

22 C.E. Ascension of Norazon II to the throne. The younger Norazon, thinking himself to be a smarter man than his father, but under the same dark influences, decides that his people need to return to the greatness of his grandfather, and that the only way to do so is another war of conquest. Norazon marshals his nobles and sets forth to make war against the elves.

23-33 C.E. War with Malinar. Every spring Norazon marshals a new army, and each time the elves give but a little ground. Firmly in control of his kingdom, Norazon continues the war, loosing many soldiers, but never quite enough to convince the human nobles to depose him. The elves, for their part, call on the dwarves to aid them, and war rages across the mainland of Aromathus each year, laying waste to vast portions of the continent.

» 23 – 93 C.E. “Time of troubles” in the Narvith Empire. Branded as being no different than their continental cousins, the dwarves and elves stop all trade and communication with the islander humans. As the Narvics are heavily reliant on food produced on the mainland, there are many famines and other disasters during this period.

34 C.E. A treaty ends the wars between man and elf for a time, but a “cold war” continues. The Narvic empire enters a dark age, cut off from all trade save a trickle flowing through the minotaur islands.

37 C.E. Death of Norazon II. His son, Manthar (the builder) comes to the throne. Manthar is a peaceful man, and things look to calm down. Peace is restored and the Averic Empire begins to prosper. The Narvith Empire, however, continues to suffer from the blockade.

40 C.E. Responding to increasing orc raids from the orc clan holds beyond the Eldanish highlands, Manthar begins a series of campaigns that result in human control of the lands up to the Ishkar river. Manthar builds a series of garrison forts along river, and begins construction of Traazon Keep at the end of the “Kingsway,” a broad highway running from the great ocean to the River Ishkar.

82 C.E. Death of Manthar. His son, Torval assumes the throne. Torval’s policies focus the empire back in the west, and tensions begin to simmer again.

90 C.E. Torval dies of the pox while inspecting the border forts between the empire and Malinar. His son, Hornath, takes the name Norazon III when crowned, and declares that he holds the elves and their magic responsible for his father’s death, and promises both to “restore Averim’s greatness” and to “punish her enemies.”

93 C.E. Norazon III, becoming increasingly convinced of both the Narvith Empire and Malanar’s guilt in the death of his father, convinces the March Lords of their guilt and calls up his banners. His navy launches a great army of invasion toward the main Narvic Island of Parfin, and conquers it in a lightning campaign. Simultaneously, he invades Malinar, and by sheer weight of numbers, conquers large tracks of the elvish nation.

93-101 C.E. “The Great War.” Conflict rages across the continent in a scale never before seen, and large tracts are left blighted by battle magic and campaigning armies. A dark age looms over the whole land, not simply Malinar.

94 -95 C.E. Siege of Albeld by Averim. Norazon, sensing the fall of the city, is preparing his final assault when a messenger from the Elf princes teleports into the city. They promise to make common cause with the Narvics in exchange for an agreement to fight until the surrender of the Averics to both (i.e. no individual peace)

» 95 C.E. Beginnings of the “Great Migrations.” Refugees from the lands of the elves, dwarves, and humans flee the wars in their homelands and cross the Throw-Dwabeck Mountains into what is today Sandore. They begin to wrest control of that region from the ogre tribes and gnome clans who live there, and over the next century settle these lands. Eventually, they create what is known as “the traders tongue,” formed by combing words and phrases from several of the races in the region, allowing the various races to more easily speak to each other in one common tongue as opposed to several.

96 C.E. Battle of the Ishkar River. A joint Elven / Narvic fleet sinks the majority of the Averic fleet. This ends the threat to the Narviths, but the vast body of continental Averim remains unbowed.

97 C.E. Eldane rebels and joins the war against Averim

99 C.E. The dwarves are roused to join the alliance by the negotiating prowess of Narvic Crown Prince Alain. Averim now stands alone against an alliance of all the civilized nations of the known world.

» 100 C.E. “The fissure.” Several prominent dwarf clans, fearing that the wars with the humans will never end, leave the ancient dwarven clan holds and set out for the mountains of the far north, in lands beyond even those controlled by their hill dwarf cousins, to start a new kingdom, away from the influence of men and elf. They spend the next several centuries wresting control of their new homes from trolls and troglodytes.

100-101 C.E. Final campaigns of the Great War. Under assault by all the other races and kingdoms, the Averics are slowly driven back. Finally, in the fall of 101 CE, an elven army advances from the south as a joint army of Narvics humans and dwarves drives toward Averim City from the ocean, the March Lords depose King Norazon and sue for peace. The war ends, but only after the death of tens of thousands and the destruction of vast portions of the lands to magical plagues and other spell effects as the battle magics used by both sides reach unprecedented levels.

» 110 C.E. Founding of both the city of Clarinar, and of the Council of Clarinar as various refugees from the other nations meet and set up a council to govern themselves. The councils stated goal is to prevent any nation from achieving dominance as Averim did. While this does indeed occur, as no major wars break out in Averim up to to the present, it also means that low-level wars are very common, as the small nations and kingdoms continually fight for dominance of trade routes, resources, and over dynastic issues as well.

130 C.E The traders tongue is adopted as the official language of the Council of Clarinar in Sandore. While not spoken by all, it becomes over time the main language of Sandore, and one spoken by merchants and nobles across the continent .

125 C.E. Formation of the High Guilds of Magecraft. Fearing the misuse of magic should another great war occur, and worried about the destruction caused by the last one, the various mage guilds unite to create three “schools” of magic, each one headed by an archmagi. One is placed in the Narvith Empire, one in the elven lands, and the third in the lands of the desert nomads who live north of Sandore A fourth is built both as a prison and repository of ancient battle magics, and its location is kept secret. Further, it is enchanted such that it “moves” about the Plains of Dust north of Sandore, thus preventing the powerful magi who are imprisoned there from simply teleporting away.

711 C.E. Drow uprising & Return of the Dragons. During a attempt to recover the battle magics located within the fourth High Mage’s Guild by the Drow, an unforeseen mishap occurs, and the Drow manage to open a portal to the Shadow Realm. Ultimate disaster is narrowly averted when a band of heroes manages to contact the Dragons with the help of the Arch Magi of the Elves, and the good dragons return – soon followed by the evil dragons. For the first time in over two thousand years, Dragons are seen in the skies over Aromathus.
